1 hold promise (for)
The model that had seemed obvious to her parents no longer held the same promise for people of her generation. For Ms Park, who ended up becoming an artist, success required abandoning most of the assumptions she had held about it. 在她父母一代看来很明显的成功模式并不能给她这一代人带来同样的发展前途。帕克最终成为了一名艺术家，对她而言，要想成功，就需要摈弃她之前对于成功的大部分设想。
也可以在hold promise后面加上for...。文中，for后面加的是人(people of her generation)，表示对某人来说有前景/前途。for后面也可以加sth，表示在...方面有前景。如：
Research shows that it is possible to steer people towards better decisions by presenting choices in different ways.研究表明，通过不同的方式呈现选择从而引导人们做出更好的决定，是可行的。
与steer sb/sth towards相反的就是steer sb/sth away from：
The government should steer factories away from fossil fuels and towards green energy sources.政府应该使工厂摆脱使用化石燃料，转而使用清洁能源。
