1 take the credit for

Pay packets in blue-collar jobs have also swelled. The booming energy sector, in particular shale oil, takes much of the credit for that.

难点解析:in particular后面的shale oil相当于一个同位语,对the booming energy sector的范围进行缩小。

在这个短语当中,credit表示称赞(praise for something you have done or achieved),是个不可数名词。take the credit for sth就是对...

Technological progress takes much of the credit for people's rising living standards.

Thanks to the booming energy sector, in particular shale oil, pay packets in blue-collar jobs have also swelled.

反义词be to blame(for)。be to blame for刚好相反,表示"贬义"的原因。 Lack of parental supervision is largely to blame for children's addiction to the internet.

2 for...purposes

Many college graduates flock to big cities to seek job opportunities.

英文释义为in a particular situation or when being considered in a particular way。

Perhaps this is the optimal size for coaching purposes.
Perhaps this is the optimal size to coach players.

Some schools allow students to use laptops in the classroom for learning purposes.

3 Gone are the days of

Gone are the days of getting gouged by money-changers in airports. Firms such as TransferWise and Airwallex offer exchange services that are cheaper and faster.

Gone are the days of doing sth... The days of doing sth are gone.

Gone are the days of relying upon the newspaper to obtain up-to-date information. Today, intelligent devices like the smartphone offer instant access to news both at home and abroad.

相比于no longer do sth来说,这个句型可以避免宽泛的主语people,更加简洁。

Gone were the days of...

Gone are the days when....,这里的when后面要用过去时,因为是过去发生的动作。如:
Gone are the days when people relied upon newspapers to obtain up-to-date information.
