1 much of a something

Ant also has an awkward relationship with banks. It relies on them to fund the loans on its platform, but as it grows it may become a competitor in their eyes. For now that is not much of a concern, given that it focuses on borrowers ignored by banks.

much of a something表示程度,可以理解为“很,十分”。

much of a risk=very risky风险很高

much of a problem=a big problem问题很大

The advent of artificial intelligence may not make much of a difference for high-skilled workers. (make a difference有重要影响,有作用)

Sth/sb is more of a A than a B 与其说某事/某人是B,不如说其是A。如:

Technology is more of a tool to change society than a boon for humankind.

2 accompany

Alongside the surge in global e-commerce and remote working there has been an accompanying boom in digital payments, which have jumped by 52% at Venmo, an American network, compared with last year.

在这一段当中,accompany现在分词作前置定语,相当于一个形容词,表示同时发生的”,也就是a boom in digital paymentsthe surge in global e-commerce and remote working是同时发生的。

accompany常用于被动,即be accompanied by...

These benefits are accompanied by several drawbacks.
Traditional beliefs still flourish alongside a modern urban lifestyle.

在原文中,the surge in global e-commerce and remote working属于次要信息,是上文没有提及的。重点是后面的an accompanying boom in digital payments。如果the surge in global e-commerce and remote working是上文提及的信息(承上启下),那么句子就可以写成如下形式:

The surge in global e-commerce and remote working has been accompanied by a boom in digital payments.

3 for the better/ worse

So long as fintech can be made safer, open and respectful of individual rights, then a monetary innovation led by China will once again change the world for the better.

for the better表示更好地。 与for the better相反的就是for the worse。如take a turn for the better/worse向好/坏的方向转变
change...for the better就是使...
It is generally believed that artificial intelligence will change society for the better.

4 Gone are the days of

Ant makes razor-thin margins on payments and takes minutes to grant a loan. Gone are the days of getting gouged by money-changers in airports. Firms such as TransferWise and Airwallex offer exchange services that are cheaper and faster.

Gone are the days of doing sth表示... The days of doing sth are gone.

Gone are the days of relying upon newspapers to obtain up-to-date information.
Gone were the days of...
Gone are the days when....,这里的when后面要用过去时,因为是过去发生的动作。如:

Gone are the days when travellers were gouged by money-changers in airports.
