There are more than 80 kinds of elements detected in coal, and among them, more than 20 elements are hazardous trace elements.

在煤中检测到的元素有80多种，其中有20多种元素是有危害的微量元素。

解析

很多同学看到这个句子后，很难在第一时间发现问题出在哪里，我们一个一个过一下。

1. there are 多余。

大家都习惯用there are句型来表达“有”煤，每每需要说“有”的时候，张口就来there are， 不怪你，大小我们就这么学的。但是作为力求精简的学术论文来说，这里的there are就多余了。不妨试下，如果我们删掉there are后，对语句的意思有影响吗？没有，依然能够说明煤中包含了80中元素。那么，删掉吧。

2. detected 施动者错误。

既然是在煤中监测到元素，那么煤定然不是施动者，而是被施动者，这里的detected就是语态错误，根据上下文，应该为“have been detected”。

3. among them，没有错，但能更好。

句子中的among them，是要表达“其中”的意思，这里的用法没错，但是不够地道，如果改成of these可以让句子的结构更加紧凑，读起来更加连贯，为加分项。
